Abstract

Worms disease can be transmitted through the ground called Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH). Included in this group are Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Hookworm. Early diagnosis of worms can use fecal or nail samples. Nails can be a place to attach various impurities containing microorganisms, one of which is Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) eggs. Lack of personal hygiene, especially nail hygiene, can make a person easily infected with worms. Work that is directly related to the soil has a great chance for someone to be infected with worms. One of the types of work that is at risk of being infected with Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) eggs is tile craftsmen. This study aims to determined the presence or absence of Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) eggs. Sampling was done with Quota sampling technique as many as 15 samples of fingernails. This research was conducted at Parasitology Laboratory of Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan Nasional Surakarta using sedimentation techniques. The sample were soaked with 0.25% NaOH solution then precipitated by means of a centrifuge and microscopically examined. The obtained data were analyzed with descriptively, namely to determine the percentage (%) of worm eggs on the nails of tile craftsmen in Ngambak Kalang Hamlet, Wirun Village which will be presented in tabular form and expressed in percent form. The results showed no Soil Transmitted Helminth eggs were found and the results were negative with a percentage of 0% of the 15 samples of fingernails examined.
