Abstract

Worms infection is one of the public health problems in Indonesia which is still high in prevalence. Types of worms that can cause infection in humans are the Soil Transmitted Helminth type (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Hookworm). Nails can be a place to attach various impurities containing microorganisms, one of which is worm eggs that can be tucked into and swallowed while eating. One of the workers who are at risk of being infected with Soil Transmitted Helminth eggs is the recipient and sorter of waste. This study aims to determine the presence of Soil Transmitted Helminth eggs on recipient nails and waste sorting at TPS Gonilan. Sampling was done with a total sampling of 15 nail samples. The examination was carried out at the Parasitology Laboratory of the Surakarta National College of Health Sciences using a NaCl 0.25% solution then deposited in a centrifuge and examined under a microscope. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively, namely knowing the percentage (%) of worm eggs on the nails expressed in percent. The results showed that the percentage of Soil Transmitted Helminth eggs found in the nail samples of waste recipient and sorting workers was 0%.
