Abstract

Antibiotics are substances produced by a living organism that are effective in inhibiting or destroying the growth of other organisms. In principle, the sensitivity test of an antibiotic is the first step in determining disease-causing bacteria that can show resistance or knowing the ability of antibiotics to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro, so that their potential for treatment can be determined. Antibiotic sensitivity test was carried out using the Kirby-Bauer method on bacterial cultures of 3 species, namely Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus saprophyticus with the technique used by antibiotic disc diffusion according to Mc Farland standard no.5. The culture medium used Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) with Cefoxitin 30µl antibiotic disc type which was incubated at 37ºC for 24 hours. The results of the inhibition zones formed were measured with a ruler or caliper and interpreted based on the 2020 Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards. This research method uses secondary data collection taken from sources of scientific journals, scientific papers or research thesis with the data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis method. The results of the Cefoxitin 30µl antibiotic sensitivity test to Staphylococcus sp bacterial cultures showed that the results were sensitive or bacterial isolates could be inhibited with the recommended and determined dose.
