Abstract
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent killer because of its physical properties that are tasteless and odorless, but in high concentrations it can cause death in humans who are exposed to it quickly. The bond between CO and Hb is called carboxyhemoglobin. This study was to determine the carboxyhemoglobin levels of STIKES National students who live less than 200 meters from the highway. This type of research is descriptive research. Samples were obtained by sampling technique in the form of quota sampling. Carboxyhemoglobin examination was carried out using the Conway plate diffusion cell method. The data is presented in tabular form and the results are narrated. Research respondents were 7 students of the Surakarta National College of Health Sciences who met the sample criteria where the results of carboxyhemoglobin levels were 0.41%; 0.41%; 0.39%, 0.47%, 0.42%; 0.32% and 0.48%. The absorbance of the sample was read at a wavelength of 371 nm and the operating time was stable at 60-120 minutes. The research can be concluded that the value of carboxyhemoglobin levels in the blood of students at the National Health Sciences College is still within normal limits according to the PERMENKES RI standard number 70 of 2016 which does not exceed 3.5%.
