Abstract

Pre-analytic errors that often occur in the examination of platelets are time and temperature. If blood with anticoagulants is stored at room temperature, platelets will continue to actively metabolize, causing platelet resistance to decrease. These changes can be slowed down if the blood sample is stored in the refrigerator. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the platelet count in venous blood specimens stored at refrigerator temperature and room temperature for 1 hour. This study uses a descriptive research design. This research was conducted at the Budi Peni Clinical Laboratory and was conducted in January-July. The sample of this study was 15 students of 3A1 Study Program D3 Medical Laboratory Technology National College of Health.. From the results of the study obtained 15 samples with an average control platelet count of 298,000 cells/mm3 , the average number of platelets stored at refrigerator temperature (2-8 oC) 293,000 cells/mm3 and the average number of platelets stored at room temperature (25- 30oC) 287,000 cells/mm3 . There was a change in the number of platelets in intermediate venous blood specimens that were immediately examined without storage, stored at refrigerator temperature (2-8 0C) for 1 hour, and stored at room temperature (25-300C) for 1 hour, a decrease of 1.9 % for venous blood specimens stored in the refrigerator and 4.0% for venous blood specimens stored at room temperature.
