Abstract

Background: Indonesia has a high number of occupational diseases, especially in the case of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). MSDs is a disorders of the musculoskeletal system are caused by work risk factors. Work activities that are not in accordance with the physical tolerance can result musculoskeletal disorders. Several interventions are intended as an effort to overcome MSDs, including ergonomics education and workplace stretching exercises. Objective: To identify the difference effect between education ergonomics and workplace stretching exercises to change the complaints of musculoskeletal disorders. Research Methods: This research uses literature study method. The time of this research runs from February 2021 to July 2021. Journals search are performed on the database google scholar and PubMed, with the keyword education ergonomics or workplace stretching exercise on musculoskeletal disorders. The inclusion criteria in this study were free full-text articles, in English language, published from 2015 to 2021, using the nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire measuring tools. Research Results: The screening results obtained four ergonomic education journals and three workplace stretching exercise journals. In the discussion of the seven literatures, showed that there was an effect of each intervention on reducing musculoskeletal disorders. There are differences in the physiological mechanisms of the two interventions, where ergonomics education is based on changes in perception and behavior, while workplace stretching is based on changes in flexibility and muscle relaxation. Conclusion: There is no difference in the effect between ergonomics education with workplace stretching exercises on changes in musculoskeletal disorders complaints. Both interventions can reduce musculoskeletal complaints, but based on different physiological mechanism.
