Abstract

Hypertension is widely known as the most common cardiovascular disease which is referred to as a "silent killer" disease. One of the risk factors that can lead to an increase in the incidence of morbidity and mortality in patients with hypertension is the patient's non-adherence in taking antihypertensive drugs. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of drug adherence in antihypertensive patients with the success of antihypertensive therapy. This study was retrospective. Data were collected using the ASK-12 questionnaire in hypertensive patients. This study was conducted using purposive sampling technique according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that 18.33% of patients were compliant with the drug and 81.67% of nonadherent patients. Therapy that achieved the target with high success was 21.67% in compliant patients, while in non-adherent patients as many as 78.33%. The analysis test of the relationship between adherence to medication use and the success of achieving therapeutic targets carried out by the Chi Square test showed a relationship between the variable adherence to taking antihypertensive drugs and the systolic blood pressure variable, the P value = 0.023 (P <0.05) and with the blood pressure variable. diastolic values obtained P Value = 0.023 (P <0.05). The conclusion is that there is a significant relationship between adherence to taking antihypertensive drugs and blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
