Abstract

Cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) the content of secondary compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids and terpenoids in cherry leaves is thought to have activity on the healing process of burns. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of 70% ethanol extract of cherry leaves on the healing of burns. The extract was made in cream preparations with a concentration of 1%, 3% 5% with quality control tests which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, cream type, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion. This research is an experimental study with male white rats. The formation of second degree burns by the method of applying hot metal. Observations of burns were carried out for 15 days by applying cream preparations 2 times a day and observed a decrease in the diameter of the burn. The results obtained were processed using SPSS One Way ANOVA software followed by the Tukey PostHoc Test and observed by the percentage of burn injury. The results of the physical properties test of the cream showed that the cream preparations met the specified quality control requirements. The statistical results of the comparison of the average wound diameter in F3 with positive controls showed no significant difference so that 5% cherry leaf ethanol extract cream had the same effect as betadine cream in helping to reduce wound diameter.
