Abstract

Trichomonas vaginalis is one of the parasites that can cause Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), namely Trichomoniasis. Trichomoniasis infection can be transmitted through sexual contact with people infected with Trichomonas vaginalis. Community groups that have a high risk of Trichomonas vaginalis infection are groups that often change partners, one of which is commercial sex workers (PSK). Parangkusumo, Kretek, Bantul is one of the places that became a localization for commercial sex workers. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Trichomonas vaginalis in commercial sex workers (PSK) in the Parangkusumo area. This study used a descriptive method with urine samples of commercial sex workers examined 30 samples. Examination in this study by painting giemsa which was then observed using a microscope. Based on the results of this study, it can be seen that 6.7% of urine samples in commercial sex workers in Parangkusumo localization found Trichomonas vaginalis parasites, besides that there is a difference between positive and negative samples, that positive samples of Trichomonas vaginalis microscopically more epithelial cells and bacteria than negative samples, while macroscopic observations of positive samples of Trichomonas vaginalis tend to be more cloudy than negative samples.
