Abstract
Smoking is an activity that is widely done by many people of all ages, both adults to children. If the habit of smoking continues, then many people will be killed by cigarettes. E-cigarettes are one of the Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) that uses electricity from battery power to channel steam. The content of e-cigarette liquids varies, but generally contains 4 types of mixtures, namely nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin, and flavors. Nicotine is one of the harmful ingredients that can increase catecholamine secretion so that it increases lipolysis and this is what will increase cholesterol levels. The purpose of this study is to find out the picture of cholesterol levels in electric smokers in surakarta vapers. This research is descriptive research with a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted in the chemistry laboratory of the National STIKES clinic. The population in this study was 35 members of the Surakarta vapers association and obtained 33 respondents with purposive sampling sample techniques. Cholesterol examination used the CHOD-PAP method (Cholesterol Oxidase-Peroxsidase Aminoantipyrine Phenol) and checked with the Clima MC 15 Photometer tool. The results of the study on 33 respondents of electric smokers in the Surakarta vapers association obtained 32 respondents experienced an increase in cholesterol levels with an average cholesterol level of 343.68 mg/dl with a percentage of 96.97%. And obtained 1 respondent had normal cholesterol levels of 189 mg/dl with a percentage of 3.03%. The conclusion obtained in the study with the title Picture of Cholesterol Levels in Electric Smokers in the Surakarta Vapers Association based on age, gender, frequency of cigarette use per day, the length of time of smoking and the type of e-cigarette used obtained a significant increase in cholesterol levels.
