Abstract

The nicotine content contained in cigarettes can cause insulin resistance, which is the main cause of increased blood glucose levels so that active smokers have a risk of suffering from diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of cigarette glucose levels and smoking habits in Kijilan Madegondo Hamlet, Grogol District. Methods This research is descriptive with a total of 34 respondents obtained by purposive sampling. The results of the study showed that fasting blood glucose levels in active smokers in Kijilan Madegondo Hamlet, Grogol District, from 34 respondents obtained blood glucose levels in the normal category, namely 80%, in the high category or experiencing hyperglycemia as much as 6%, and in the low category or experiencing hypoglycemia as much as 14%. High glucose levels are found in people over 45 years of age and low levels are found in the age range of less than 45 years. High glucose levels are found in smoking durations of 1-10 years and 11-20 years with smoking frequency of >20 cigarettes/day. The conclusion of this study is that most of the active smokers in Kijilan Madegondo Hamlet, Grogol District, Sukoharjo Regency have normal fasting blood glucose levels. High fasting blood glucose levels were found in the age range of more than 45 years and low in the age range less than 45 years High glucose levels were found in smoking duration 1-10 years and 11-20 years with smoking frequency >20 cigarettes/day.
